Cruising, vert demo and carving
Friday, May 28th, 2004Last night I cruised down to Lloyds ampitheatre to watch the Red Bull Vert Demo. I skated down via dean lane skate park - didn’t stay long - I was expecting it to be empty but was fairly crowded, so I just carved and kickturned my way down the park, pumped up and down a bit on the gnarly/horrible concrete ramp at the bottom, then continued into town.
The demo was excellent - huge wide vert ramp with roof and sound system, some excellent skating. Mark and Jason from chilled heat were there, Jason skating (sooo close to getting the 540) and Mark filming/ photographing. There should be more events like that, and that ramp should stay there! It was actually the first time i’ve been and had a close look at the infamous Lloyds ledges - I reckon I could ollie on and off those with a bit of practice, they aren’t as high as I thought they were - I wonder if it’s empty first thing in the morning?
Cruised back via Hotwells - a pleasant and pain free route on me cruisin’ wheels and the one I shall use for work.
Today I managed to get a cheeky hour in at Hengrove, put me hard wheels back on, got padded up (my knees, elbows and shins look so f****d at the moment!), and bombed around for a bit. My ability hasn’t really improved much over the last couple of weeks but my energy has (hooray!). I still ended up panting and sweating like a dog, but took longer getting there
