inevitable - grown man rolls around on floor for benefit of bored car drivers

I tempted fate this morning whilst skating to work. I was on a nice smooth stretch of pavement, slight downhill, the sun was shining and I was feeling smug because the the road was jammed full of commuter traffic sitting stationary in a long queue. I was feeling good, and (picture me acting like the cat from red dwarf) damn I was looking good, carving down the pavement with a big smile on my face, knowing how liberated and free I am from the stop-start car crawl to work.

I was feeling so good that I decided the approaching "ye olde" flagstones, an entrance to some old boat yard - which I usually walk over - presented no obstable to my tiny plastic wheels. I made it all the way over, my board stopped about halfway, leaving me rolling around on the floor, to the amusement of the bored car drivers. I then had to jump up sharpish and chase after my board which had started running away back down the pavement, heading for the road.

Luckily years of skating have prepared me for this type of potential humiliation, and I was laughing before I even hit the floor :-) If anything, i’m surprised that this doesn’t happen more often…
