Taunton Dreamfields MAS/MOTHS mini jam

rick exorcising the frontside disaster demons

Last night I went down to the dreamfields indoor skatepark in Taunton for a MAS/MOTHS mini jam. When I got there I wasn’t sure what to do - it isn’t a typical park in that it doesn’t have a mini-ramp or bowl as such, but rather a unique and interesting roll-in to quarterpipe/wallride (a section of which is the perspex window to a spectators area), leading back to a bowled out section.

Standing at the top of the roll in was scary, but I forced myself to do it more or less straight away as it is only about six foot and shouldn’t be beyond me. By the end of the night I still found it scary (but was enjoying the rush!), but could handle it with no speed wobble, kickturn on the wallride (but not reaching the perspex), then carve the bowled end, kickturn on the other side of the wall ride, carve back frontside, kicturn, repeat until legs turn to Jelly. Must try and get higher on the wallride next time.

The park also has a street course with the usual flat banks, transitions, rails etc I managed to do a couple of frontside 50-50’s on the quarterpipe at one end (about 4ft), and was getting close to my bogey trick - frontside disaster.- putting them down then bailing. I must try and ride those out next time i’m there too.
